Negotiations with the Palestinian Authority will continue even under fire, because halting them will play into the hands of Hamas, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Monday. "If negotiations stop, will terrorism stop?" Livni asked the Knesset plenum. "Stopping negotiations will bring ruin to our future." The foreign minister was responding to a no-confidence motion by MKs from Israel Beiteinu protesting continued peace talks while Kassam rockets are fired at Israel. Livni told assembled MKs she did not come to the negotiation table like "Santa Claus…bearing presents for the Palestinians. This is not a favor to the Palestinians or to the US. These are our interests and we need to [negotiate] while preserving them. I come to the negotiation table to preserve Israel's principles on refugees, on security and on terror," she stated. "Let no one tell me I am not concerned for the future of Israel and Jerusalem," she added.
