Livni to UN Chief: Gov't must defend citizens from terrorist attacks

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called on the international community to use its influence and condemn the rocket-firing into Israel in a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday. The UN chief warned Livni of the difficult humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. But the foreign minister said the government could not sit idly by while innocent Israeli citizens were under fire. Livni criticized the international community's policy of restraint in face of Arab terrorism, saying that "anyone who thinks we will continue being shot at without shooting back - is wrong."
