Murder suspect turns himself in

22-year-old Benny Katz stabbed, killed in Kiryat Motzkin in brawl over affections of young woman.

The main suspect in the Friday night murder of 22-year-old Kiryat Motzkin resident Benny Katz turned himself in to police on Saturday. The 34-year-old, a Kiryat Motzkin resident with a police record, arrived at the city's police station accompanied by his lawyer and family members. According to the suspect, he and Katz had met on Friday afternoon in the northern city, and a quarrel over the affections of a young girl broke out. The two met again in the evening, when Katz was stabbed to death. Police arrested two additional suspects on Saturday, aged 34 and 16, also residents of the city, who were thought to have witnessed the brawl. The three were remanded at the Krayot Magistrate's Court on Saturday evening. Also on Friday evening, a dispute over land in the Arab settlement of Ein Sahla near Wadi Ara ended in violence. Three members of one family were lightly wounded in the scuffle. Meanwhile, a group of youths attacked several Arabs who came to play soccer in a neighborhood pitch with clubs, wounding three of them lightly in Migdal Ha'emek. The wounded were evacuated to Ha'emek Hospital in Afula. In related news, an 81-year-old woman was lightly wounded in a robbery in Nazareth Illit. She opened her door to an alleged neighbor, who ripped a gold chain from her neck and escaped. The man was later arrested and confessed to the attack.
