Northern cities and towns set to strike on Wednesday

Scores of cities, towns and villages in the North are set to go on general strike on Wednesday, in protest of the government's plan to redraw the area's special status as a conflict zone, negating some of the tax and budget benefits the residents enjoy. Among the municipalities and councils going on strike were Nahariya, Kiryat Shmona, Shlomi, Metula, Kfar Vradim, Peki'in and others. The strike is planned to include the education system as well as municipal services and parts of the commercial sector. In Kiryat Shmona, a demonstration is planned in which the residents intend to block the roads leading into the city.
