PM: Evacuation-compensation bill discussion meant to avert suffering

The government must discuss the evacuation-compensation bill so as to prevent undue suffering for residents of West Bank communities in the event that peace negotiations produce an agreement which would require their removal, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Sunday. "We are not raising the matter for a decision, but at a time when serious, on-going negotiations will probably bare fruit, it is worthwhile to think about the meaning and the different aspects," Olmert said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting. "We need to start to think about these topics now and to prepare accordingly," he said.
