Police Investigations Department to probe Ni'lin boy's death

The Police Investigations Department (PID) has announced that it will open an investigation into the death of 18-year-old Yousef Ahmed Younis Amera during a demonstration in Ni'lin in late July, B'tselem said Wednesday. Border Police have said Amera was injured by a rubber-coated bullet during a riot that broke out in the village after the funeral of another boy killed during protests a day earlier. A spokesman said earlier this month that no inquiry into Amera's death was necessary. "The message we stress is that anyone who enters a danger zone is putting themselves at risk," the spokesman said. But B'tselem spokeswoman Sarit Michaeli said that according to several witnesses at the scene the young man was not involved in the clashes that occurred that evening between Border Police and young Palestinian men from the village, and was standing at the entrance to his home when he was shot, she said. "At the very least, these allegations have to be looked into," Michaeli said.
