The United Nations says it has reached agreement in principal with Israel on compensation for UN losses during the war in Gaza. UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said agreement has been reached in principal "on the terms of an arrangement under which Israel would make a payment." He told reporters Thursday that the United Nations is waiting for approval from the Israeli government, which it expects shortly. Nesirky would not disclose details of the agreement or the amount of compensation. A UN investigation found that Israeli weaponry was the cause of attacks on several UN schools, a health clinic and the world body's Gaza headquarters during Operation Cast lead that ended in January 2009. One attack reportedly killed more than 40 people.
