Berlin: Hundreds call for solidarity with Israel

January 28, 2007 20:05

Several hundred demonstrators marched to Berlin's Holocaust memorial Sunday to call for solidarity with Israel against threats from Iran's hardline president. Some 700 people took part in driving rain, according to a police estimate, some carrying Israeli flags and placards demanding that the international community "defend Israel." A group of Jewish and other organizations had organized the event to protest against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has described the Holocaust as a "myth" and called for Israel to be wiped off the map.
