A wall next to the Jewish synagogue in Naples was defaced overnight with four swastikas and other anti-Semitic graffiti, a representative for the local Jewish community said Wednesday.
Giulia Gallichi, who discovered the graffiti Wednesday morning, said one of them read: "Thanks Hitler." She said it had been years since the last episode involving anti-Semitic graffiti in the southern Italian city.
Naples Mayor Rosa Russo Jervolino said the episode was "deplorable" and expressed her solidarity with the Jewish community.
Early this year, about 20 Jewish shops across Rome were vandalized and defaced with swastikas in an apparent neo-fascist attack linked to fighting in the Middle East.
