Employees at Tel Aviv's Magistrates Court are furious that at least three judges are thumbing their noses at the law and smoking regularly in the building, reports www.mynet.co.il. The employees, some of whom are pregnant and apparently fearful of losing their jobs, have complained to court president Edna Bekenstein about being exposed to passive smoke, but the situation reportedly remains unchanged. According to the report, the judges are smoking cigarettes in their offices in the court building, exposing their legal assistants and secretaries to passive smoke. Smoking in public buildings is prohibited by law. A court spokesman said Bekenstein had ordered those responsible to abide by the law against smoking in public buildings. Court manager, Judge Moshe Gal, also sent out a letter advising judges that smoking was permitted only in specially designated areas, or in judges' rooms only when other employees there also smoked.
