Palestinian Authority Minister of Prisoners Affairs Sufian Abu Zaida praised Israel for ‘showing more understanding than before’ about Palestinians’ demands for the release of prisoners. He said that the PA wanted to acquire “prisoner of war” status for those incarcerated in Israeli jails. Referring to the current battle on terror, Zaida told Israel Radio: “I think Abu Mazen [PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas] is fighting for the sake of the Palestinian people and peace. I think he will succeed.” However, the minister said that the PA does not acknowledge the term “terror infrastructure,” although it does have an interest in removing weapons from the streets.
