Australian military vehicle crashes in Iraq

An Australian armored troop carrier crashed into a ditch during a patrol in southern Iraq, slightly injuring one soldier and damaging the vehicle, the military said Thursday. The accident on Monday night local time was not caused by enemy activity, the Defense Department said in a statement. One soldier aboard the vehicle was airlifted to Kuwait to be treated for bruises, but has since returned to duty. No one else was injured. The vehicle was damaged so badly it could not be driven away, but was recovered by another vehicle and has been repaired, the statement said.
