The IDF coordinated the transfer Wednesday of a special Braille printing system into the Gaza Strip to be used to print schoolbooks for blind Palestinians who study in UNRWA-directed schools. The delivery of the two printers came on the heels of unprecedented transfers of school and office supplies for the Palestinian education system that the IDF began permitting last month in line with the beginning of the new school year. The shipments included copy machines, projectors, printers, notebooks, schoolbags, schoolbooks and writing material. "The Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration makes major efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip including school supplies as requested by UNRWA," said Col. Moshe Levi, head of the CLA. Last week, the CLA coordinated the transfer of 5,000 swine flu vaccinations to the Gaza Strip, intended for Palestinians who will be participating in the Haj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. The vaccinations were requested by the International Red Cross. In addition the vaccinations, the CLA also coordinated the transfer of hundreds of different life-saving medicines to the Gaza Strip as well as a new ambulance after the IRC claimed that medical supplies were running low. "Swine flue is a global problem that does not stop at borders," Levi said. "Its eruption in the Gaza Strip will harm the Palestinian population and endanger the State of Israel as well."
