EU sends millions more in aid to Palestinians

The European Union says it has sent an extra €40 million ($59 million) to the Palestinian Authority to help maintain public services, and pay salaries, pensions and social allowances. The money is in addition to the €440 million ($646 million) pledged in December by the EU at an international aid conference in Paris. In Wednesday's statement, the EU said part of the new money would be used to provide fuel for a power plant in the Gaza Strip. The EU said it was also launching a €37 million ($54 million) investment program with the Palestinian Authority to upgrade infrastructure as part of its Paris pledge.
