Abul Gheit calls for talks to solve tension over "Ruah Shaked" documentary.

Egypt will not cut ties with Israel over the Channel 1 documentary Ruah Shaked (The Spirit of Shaked), Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit told the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram Saturday.
The documentary raised an uproar after it erroneously claimed that the famed Shaked reconnaissance unit - then headed by National Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer - had killed Egyptian POWs after the Six Day War.
Egyptian officials called for an investigation and have threatened to arrest Ben-Eliezer should he "set foot" on Egyptian soil. Following the furor, Ben-Eliezer postponed a planned visit to Cairo.
Exclusive: Shaked filmmaker admits error
Gheit echoed previous calls for an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations, but said that ending relations with Israel was not the "right way" to address the problem.
"If Israel wants the trust of the Egyptian people, it must look into [the claims]," Israel Radio reported Gheit saying.
The report added that the Al-Ahram writer had asked how filmmaker [Ran Edelist] could have made such a "serious mistake."
"How could he not have known that a mistake like this would spark a crisis with Egypt?" the writer wondered.
On Friday, The Jerusalem Post revealed that Edelist admitted mistaking archive footage of Palestinian fedayeen for pictures of captive Egyptian soldiers.
