Egyptian police have detained 32 members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group, a security official said.
The official said most were accused of being involved in an attempt to send a supply convoy from Egypt into the blockaded Gaza Strip earlier this month.
The official said those arrested Wednesday could face charges of belonging to a banned group. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.
Egypt is worried that the Hamas-ruled Gaza could bolster the Muslim Brotherhood. The group has attempted to send food and medicine convoys to Palestinians in Gaza, partly to embarrass Egypt's role in the Strip's blockade.
