Fifth Gaza blockade-busting boat sails into Gaza harbor

A vessel carrying Lebanese and Qatari activists, as well as an Israeli journalist, sailed into Gaza City's small port on Saturday, in defiance of a border blockade. It was the fifth such boat trips by activists since the summer. Israel and Egypt closed Gaza's borders after the violent takeover of the territory by Hamas in June 2007. Since November, Israel has tightened the blockade, in an attempt to halt rocket fire on Israeli border towns by Gaza gunmen. However, sporadic fighting has continued, and Hamas declared Friday that it would not extend a truce that had taken effect in June.
