Iraq: 1 US soldier killed, 1 wounded south of Baghdad

One US soldier was killed by a rocket or mortar attack on a convoy support center south of Baghdad, the military said Friday. The soldier, who was killed Thursday, was assigned to the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, according to a brief statement. Another soldier was wounded and evacuated to a military hospital, it said. The statement said only that the soldiers were attacked by indirect fire, the military term for a rocket or mortar attack, at Convoy Support Center Scania, which according to GlobalSecurity.org is a truck stop about 100 kilometers south of Baghdad. Identities were not released pending notification of relatives.
