Hamas has chosen one of its prominent leaders, Mahmoud Zahar, to head its parliamentary faction, group officials said.
The parliament, dominated by Hamas who claimed a sweeping victory in January's elections, is due to be sworn in on Saturday.
Zahar rejects peace talks with Israel, but recently told reporters that Hamas would extend its year-old informal truce if Israel reciprocated.
