The Tel Aviv district attorney filed an indictment against a 20-year-old man on Wednesday, charging him with having intercourse with a woman without her consent after breaking into her home.
According to the indictment, filed in the Tel Aviv District Court, Umut Adok broke into the complainant’s Tel Aviv apartment at around 3 a.m. on April 21, in order to rape and then rob her.
The complainant, known only as “Y.,” was asleep as Adok stole NIS 250 from her purse, the indictment said.
Allegedly, Adok then approached Y. as she lay sleeping on her stomach, lifted her clothes and raped her.
Y woke and tried to resist Adok, but could not because he lay on top of her and gripped her with both hands, the indictment said.
Adok continued raping Y., the indictment alleges, before fleeing from the apartment, stealing three kitchen knives as well as the money he stole earlier.
Adok is charged under the Penal Code with rape by exploiting a woman’s state of unconsciousness or ability to give free consent. The maximum punishment is 16 years in prison.
He is also charged with theft, and breaking and entering into a dwelling, which would be punishable by a maximum of seven years in prison.
