Superstar Madonna has reportedly advertised for a private chef to cook for her and her family – a chef who understands kosher dietary laws.
According to the London Evening Standard, the 60-year-old singer and mother of six posted an ad on a job site earlier this month searching for a private in-house cook.
The text of the advertisement, posted by The Sun, says applicants “must have knowledge of kosher cooking. The principal does not run a kosher kitchen (separate equipment for meat/dairy etc), but you must be familiar with all the basic rules (no dairy and meat served together, no pork, fish must have fins and scales – no swordfish, shellfish etc.).”
Madonna, who is Catholic, has long been interested in the study of Kabbalah, medieval Jewish mysticism. She has also spoken publicly about observing certain Jewish practices.
Last month she posted on Instagram ahead of Rosh Hashana: “Shana Tova... Blessings for the New Year!” And last year Madonna even posted a photo of herself with the caption “9th of Av. This is a Day to stay inside. lay low. Keep Quiet.”
In a 2015 interview with The Irish Independent, the singer said while she isn’t Jewish, “There are a lot of things I do that one would associate with practicing Judaism. I hear the Torah every Saturday. I observe Shabbat. I say certain prayers. My son was bar mitzvahed.”
The chef position, according to the advertisement, is based in London, though it would also require international travel. And, if you were considering applying, it pays £85,000-£110,000 ($110,000-$142,000) per year.
