You’re set to have the holiday of a lifetime in one of the most fascinating countries in the world. As well as organizing your flights and accommodation, you also need to consider the best way to see the country. There are plenty of options when it comes to transport, since Israel has a good rail network and buses go to most of the main sites of interest.
However when it comes to designing your own tailor-made vacation, many people decide to rent a car in Israel, since this allows them the freedom to visit attractions whenever they like, and get off the beaten track to discover the authentic, less touristy places. When you rent a car in Israel you also get the opportunity to take in the stunning vistas and pretty desert scenery a road trip offers you. A car is perfect for exploring the Galilee, and sites along the coast including Caesarea and Akko.
It’s easy to get around Israel by car
You’ll find that Israel has good roads and that distances tend to be short between places of interest, so you can take in nearly all the sites in a vacation of reasonable length. Ask your car rental provider if they can provide you with a map before you set off. More detailed maps can be purchased in the local bookstore, and if you’re traveling around Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee - buy a map that’s designed with tourists in mind.
You can rent a car in Israel just about anywhere, and you can easily pick up a car from Ben Gurion airport when you arrive. This is a convenient option, meaning you don’t need to negotiate an unknown public transport system in a new country when you’ve just disembarked from a long flight.
It makes sense to rent a car by booking in advance for peace of mind and that you can guarantee you get the car you want, especially if you’re coming to Israel in high season. And if you are traveling in summer make sure you hire a car with good air-conditioning. It also pays to go with a big car rental operator – since they have a bigger network of cars and service centers – and they will be far more likely to help you quickly if the car breaks down.
