Gal Yekutiel will take part in his second straight Olympics hoping to improve on his second round exit in Athens four years ago.
The 26-year-old secured his place in China with a fifth place finish in the 60 kilogram competition at April's European Championships.
The best achievement of his career came in the previous Europeans in 2007 when he clinched the bronze medal.
On his day, Yekutiel has a chance to make a real impression on the Olympic competition, but he is also vulnerable to an early exit and much will depend on his form on August 9 when he becomes the first Israeli to compete in the Games.
