Shahar Pe'er needs no introducing. One of Israel's most successful athletes will be playing in the Olympic singles tournament and will also team-up with Tzipi Obziler in the doubles. The 21-year-old, who is the only Israeli to ever reach a quarterfinal of a Grand Slam singles tournament twice (the 2007 Australian and US Opens), will be taking part in her first Olympics and will be aiming to reach the last eight in Beijing. Ranked at No. 25 in the world in singles, Pe'er is positioned 10 places higher in the doubles rankings and as a result had the option of taking Obziler with her to Beijing. The 35-year-old was hoping to qualify for the Games on her own merit, but despite failing to do so will get to experience the Olympics for the first time thanks to her young counterpart's excellent doubles play.
