Itai Magidi only booked his place in Beijing earlier this month after setting a new Israeli record time of 8:24.14 minutes in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in France, a result that is 46- hundredths of a second faster than the Olympic Committee of Israel's criteria time. The best achievement of the 27-year-old's career came in 2006 when he finished in 11th position at the European Championships. In an event that is dominated by Africans and especially Kenyans, Magidi will have a tough time attempting to advance past the qualifiers in Beijing, but he will be entering the Games in the best form of his life and will be hoping to spring a massive surprise and sneak into the final.
