Kayaker Michael Kolganov missed out on a place in the K1,500 meters final by less than a second on Thursday, finishing fourth in the semifinals in a time of 1:43.145 minutes.
The 33-year-old needed to finish among the top three in his semi and was only beaten to the precious spot by nine tenths of a second by Akos Vereckei.
"I'm slightly disappointed, but this is sport," the bronze medalist from the Sydney 2000 Games said.
"Someone has to win and someone has to lose and today just wasn't my day."
