Gidi Kliger and Eran Sela claimed their first significant medal as a team on Monday, finishing second in the 470 Class sailing European Championships in Istanbul.
Kliger and Sela, who first joined forces late last year, finished Monday’s medal race in second position to secure the silver medal and boost their hopes of doing well at the 2012 London Olympics. Kliger consistently took medals at the World and European championships with Udi Gal in previous years, but the two parted ways after a disappointing 14th place finish in the Beijing Games in 2008.
After a few frustrating results, the hard work put in by Kliger and Sela finally paid off in the past week and they will be aiming to continue and improve in the hope of pursuing their Olympic dream in London in two years.
"This is my first medal at a continental championship,” Sela said. “The competition was difficult as the wind drastically changed throughout the week, proving that we are capable of doing well in any condition.“
