Tennis: Pe’er beats top seed Wozniacki in Dubai third round

22-year-old Israeli ends 7-match losing streak against top 10 players, defeating Dane 6-2, 7-5.

Shahar Pe’er ended her seven-match losing streak against top 10 playerson Wednesday by beating world number three and top seed CarolineWozniacki in the third round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The 22-year-old Israeli, ranked No. 22 in the world, defeated the Dane 6-2, 7-5.
Pe’er, who was famously denied entry into the tournament in theEmirates last year, had lost all three of her previous meetings withWozniacki, including in the third round of the Australian Open lessthan four weeks ago when the Israeli took just four games in a straightsets loss.
On Tuesday, Pe’er claimed an emphatic 6-2, 6-2 victory over 2009 Dubai finalist Virginie Razzano (24) of France.
