El Al launches in-flight Internet

El Al Israel Airlines launched its "Flyweb" in-flight Internet service this Sunday on the morning flight to Paris, an upgrade that will be made to its entire Boeing 747-400 and 777 fleet. The aircraft were equipped with the Connexion by Boeing Internet service system at a cost of $3 million and has been offered to El Al customers after weeks of testing, the company said. El Al is the ninth airline in the world to carry this wireless high-speed Internet service. Other airlines include Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, JAL, SAS, ANA, China Airlines, Asiana Airlines and Korean Airlines. Access to the service requires a laptop and credit card, and is available to passengers in all flight classes. The fee is determined either on a per minute or per flight basis. Pay by the minute access starts at $9.95 for 30 minutes, while connection for the entire flight costs $14.95 on flights up to 3 hours, $19.95 on flights of three to six hours and $29.95 on flights over six hours.
