American media company Universal Cable Productions is bringing together Israeli director Gideon Raff and American screenwriter Tim Kring to create new drama, DIG. The series revolves around a Jerusalem-based FBI agent who discovers an ancient conspiracy during a murder investigation.Nir Barkat, mayor of Jerusalem, thought of the idea of a thriller taking place in Jerusalem and went to Raff, Emmy award-winning creator of Homeland and its Israeli original series, Prisoners of War.Kring, who created NBC’s Heroes, was chosen by Barkat and Raff to write the script. The two will also be executive producers along with Gene Stein, Gail Berman, and Lloyd Braun of independent media company BermanBraun, and Avi Nir, CEO of Keshet Media Group. Both Keshet Media Group and BermanBraun will be going into production of the series in the near future.DIG is currently on a six-episode deal and in the very early stages of development; however it has been announced that the show will be filmed in Jerusalem with the full support of Barkat.This six-episode deal will be the first project commitment of NBC Universal’s president, Jeff Wachtel.While no cast members have yet been chosen, the series is expected to air on NBC sometime in late 2014.
