Rena Schenfeld gets Italian Prize

Dancer choreographer Rena Schenfeld received the Hug of Peace prize awarded her by the Nardo municipality at the Oltrepasso dance festival held at this southern Italian town.

Dancer choreographer Rena Schenfeld received the Hug of Peace prize awarded her by the Nardo municipality at the Oltrepasso dance festival held at this southern Italian town between May 2-4. Schenfeld was recognized for her contributions to Israeli and world dance. At the festival, her company performed "Seasons" her newest dance piece. Schenfeld, whose work has seminally influenced the development of modern dance in Israel, began her career in the 1960s as a dancer with Martha Graham and was invited to become one of the founding members of Batsheva Dance company. She established her own company in 1984 and has created some 60 works. In 2003 Schenfeld received the EMET award of excellence.
