On Saturday, Beit Guvrin National Park will be host to a festival celebrating the making of olive oil at the site of an ancient olive press. The center of the festivities is a demonstration of the olive press where the audience gets to participate. With the columbaria up and running, and the olive press working, all that is left to relive the Roman period in Beit Guvrin is a circus in the ancient amphitheater. And so Beit Guvrin is putting on a show of acrobatics and juggling to make the ampitheater come alive. There will also be opportunities to try out juggling or walking on stilts with equipment provided. The circus will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with main shows at 12, 1:30 and 3 p.m. Their will also be juggling and olive making on the other Saturdays in December as well. The attractions available are just an added reason to make the way to Beit Guvrin National Park, some 15 kilometers south of Beit Shemesh, which is known for its archeological excavations and, especially during the winter, spectacular flora. Park admission is NIS 23, children under five are NIS 12. The attractions, with the exception of the acrobatic workshops, carry no additional charge. Some of the attractions may be subject to weather restrictions. Details at (08) 681-1020.
