Twisted ladies and men who feed butterflies

Weekend highlights from the Israel Festival include a clash of opera and contemporary cabaret as well as a murder mystery.

Australian Dance troupe Strange Fruit kicked off the Israel Festival high in the air on flexible poles in Zion Square on Monday.
Here are some highlights of events that will be taking place this weekend.
Dance sensation
For all those who want to but cannot make their voices heard, Nimrod Freed directs a dance sensation.
A classical operatic world clashes with a contemporary cabaret world in an emotion-laden dance that erupts with enigmatic beauty, vocal harmonies, singing and accordion music in the changing dramatic space.
With music and song by Israel Brait along with the Tami Dance Company, this event promises to be a hit.

Sin Sangre
A calm evening on Manuel Roca's farm  is the setting for a murder scene. Three armed men break into the farm. Although Manuel Roca is trapped, he hides his young daughter; he cannot, however, save himself or his son. Years later, the girl who survived becomes cruel and vengeful, with the self-imposed mission of finding the man who killed her father.

The Man Who Fed Butterflies
In the last moments of his life, Filippo feels the urge to reenact an old ritual: to feed butterflies when they are freed. En route, he happens to meet Juan, a movie producer whose partner is in a coma in the hospital. He also meets Franco and Eliza, two old-fashioned, classic actors - all under the statue of the knight and his lady. In an instant, the three stories become one story, moving on their own time axes and on parallel time axes.

Uncle Vanya
Vakhtangov Theatre, one of the foremost Russian theaters, presents Uncle Vanya by the great Russian playwright, Anton Chekhov. Uncle Vanya is the story of a man who realizes that he has not lived life fully. He starts to erase his past and deny the present, in the hope of actualizing his dreams.  The gap between dream and reality slowly turns his life into a tragedy.

Twisted lady
Four intriguing stories combine for dramatic theater in 'Lady Twisted': Mother leaves home, leaves behind a father who has fallen apart and a daughter who falls victim to his depression. Until the daughter does something.
Avant-garde film director makes a movie about her traumatic relationship with her father. The film releases her darkest demons until boundaries are crossed and she does something.
A theatre director works hard on a low budget, fringe production in which her partner plays opposite two young actresses.
A playwright writes a play. The two central roles are for him and his partner.
