The road leading from the transit camp barracks at Westerbork in Holland to the train platform where prisoners bound for extermination were taken was called the Boulevard des Miseres. In 2004, composer Bernard Van Beurden created a special composition of the same name to commemorate the survivors of the camp.The composition was written for three solo male voices, a ladies‚ choir, an orchestra and two narrators. This week, in honor of the liberation of Holland 60 years ago, the concert is coming to Israel. Conducted by Harry Camstra, soloists from the Dutch Chamber Choir and the Ladies‚ Project Choir, "Kadrilaloud" will sing Israeli songs, which, according to critics, take a back seat to the insterspersed text. The words for the narrations were taken from authentic documents, letters, pamphlets, opinions, stories and poems that Van Beurden found in the Westerbork library. These and are accompanied by Jewish music played by the Drents Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra, conducted by Nico Sieffers. A simultaneous translation will be projected during the show.
Four performances are scheduled: Tonight at Jerusalem's Gerard Bechar Theater, April 27 at the Karmi'el Theatre, April 29 at the Nazareth Illit Theatre, and April 30 at the Tel Aviv Museum Eretz-Israel Theatre.
