New York resident Israeli jazz bass player Omer Avital will be back in the country next week for a four-show tour with his expatriate Israeli trio consisting of pianist Omer Klein and drummer Ziv Ravitz.
The forthcoming foray follows Avital's recent working visit here with the popular Third World Love quartet. This time, however, the concerts will be based on Avital's recent acclaimed release, Avital.
Since returning to the US in 2005, after a four year sojourn in Jerusalem to study classical composition, Avital reclaimed his position as one of the stellar members of the New York jazz scene - both as a performer and a composer. He's put out four new albums in that time and has been a regular at the well known Smalls jazz club in the West Village.
Avital's work increasingly also feeds off his Middle Eastern cultural baggage - he is of Moroccan-Yemenite descent - and ethnic motifs often find their way into his jazz endeavors.
The Omer Avital trio will appear at Levontin 7 in Tel Aviv on December 3 at 8:30 p.m.; Jerusalem's Yellow Submarine on December 5 at 9:30 p.m.; the Milestone Club at Shuni Castle near Binyamina on December 7 at 9 p.m. and at the Zappa Club in Tel Aviv on December 8 at 1 p.m.
