David Letterman's bandleader and comic sidekick will perform at celebrations in New York City marking Israel's 60th anniversary. Paul Shaffer, the musical director of Letterman's late-night talk show for more than two decades, will join Israeli musicians including Rami Kleinstein, David Broza and Idan Raichel for the concert, which will take place May 7 at Radio City Music Hall. Other artists scheduled to appear include hassidic US reggae star Matisyahu and recent Billboard chart-topper Yael Naim. The Canadian-born Shaffer, 58, has been a regular on American TV for over three decades, getting his start on Saturday Night Live before moving to Letterman in 1982. He served as a judge in 2005 at the Great Shofar Blast Off, a competition held in New York City by the National Jewish Outreach Program.
