The Ra'anana Symphonette will hold the finals of the international Daniel Competition for young composers on June 25. Just four of the more than 40 entries from all over the world have qualified for the finals. They will be played at a gala concert to be conducted by Rafi Kadishsohn.
The competition is named for Daniel Marcus, who was killed in a traffic accident in 1993, and is the brain child of his friend, Hollywood composer Dedi Zur. It is open to composers up to the age of 30. This year's theme was the Book of Daniel from the Bible, and because this is the first competition, as well as the first of its kind in Israel, entrance to the concert is free.
