After so many years and surveys, it seems that whoever is in the field can already pre-assemble the list of cars that will shine in the reliability surveys that are published from time to time. But in this case, there are a few things that caught the eye: most reliability surveys refer to relatively young cars. Here we are talking about cars that are 7 to 10 years old, so these are used cars that mostly cost around NIS 20,000 to 50,000.

The survey published in Britain was conducted by Warrantywise, a company that sells extended warranty services for cars, which are actually insurance against major malfunctions for the years after the manufacturer's warranty ends, as offered in Israel, for example, by Toyota. The rating was based on data from the years 2020-2023. The final score given from 1 to 100 is a calculation of the number of repairs and their costs. For example, it is possible that in the final score two cars with different repair costs will be ranked together due to the low repair frequency of one of them.

And the results? In the list, you can find most of the cars you expected to see, alongside a brand that we usually do not encounter there that managed to rise in the ranking. There is a very interesting reason for this, one that can be very useful when you are looking for a used car.

According to the survey, with 89 points, the Toyota Yaris was the cheapest car to repair and had the lowest repair frequency. Between 2020 and 2023, the average maintenance cost for warranty claims stood at 604 ISL that is 2,773 NIS. If the amount is alarming at first, it is for the simple reason that it is not the maintenance costs - but the repair costs in case something goes wrong in an extraordinary way and requires a repair that is beyond reasonable.

The Yaris is one of 4 models from the Japanese manufacturer that ranked in the top ten together with the Auris, Aygo, and Hilux. With the Auris in 3rd place and a shared 5th place for the other two. In addition to this quartet, there are three other Japanese cars that made it to the list: Suzuki Swift, Honda CR-V, and Mazda 2. Two Korean cars, Kia Ceed and Kia Rio, and a single European model from Peugeot - the 107.

It is worth mentioning that the 107 was actually part of a joint project in which PSA (Peugeot Citroën before creating Stellantis) collaborated with Toyota to create a trio of models developed jointly. These were the Aygo on Toyota's side and the 107 on Peugeot's side, and the C1 on Citroën's side. While the Japanese were responsible for the engine and gearboxes, the French were responsible for the rest, including production.
