Aharonovitch: Lior arrested for incitement, not his book

Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said Wednesday that Rabbi Dov Lior, whose arrest Monday caused widespread protests, was arrested not for the material he was publishing, but rather for the suspected criminal offense of incitement to violence and racism, Israel Radio reported.
Speaking at the Knesset plenum, the public security minister said that an arrest warrant had been issued for Rabbi Lior at least half a year ago, and that despite efforts to coordinate an investigation with him, Lior refused to participate. Aharonivitch added that in a Jewish and democratic country, all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law.
