Ahmadinejad asks US to release 8 Iranian prisoners

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday stated that the US should release eight Iranian prisoners "as a humanitarian" detained American hiker Sara Shourd returned home.
"I beleive it would be misplaced to ask that the US government should make a humanitarian gesture and release the Iranians who were illegally arrested and detained here in the United States," Ahmadinejad told Christiane Amanpour on ABC's This Week news program on Sunday.
The eight Iranians were arrested by US authorities on various charges, including violating international sanctions.
Ahmadinejad rejected the alleged criminality of the Iranian prisoners, telling Amanpour, "How would you know those Iranians are criminals? Are you a judge?"
