Ahmadinejad requests US visa for nuclear conference

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has applied for a US visa for next week in order to attend the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference which begins on Monday, US ambassador to the UN Susan Rice announced Wednesday.
State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said the US would permit the visit.
According to Israeli analysts, Ahmadinejad made the move in an attempt to stall the mounting international motion towards imposing sanctions on Iran, and divert attention from it by attacking Israel in the discussions.
