Head of Russian Jewish group calls for Dagestan rioters to be found and harshly punished

The president of Russia's Federation of Jewish Communities on Monday called on the authorities to find and harshly punish the participants and organizers of an antisemitic riot in Dagestan on Sunday.

In a statement, Rabbi Alexander Boroda said that a riot that greeted the arrival of a plane from Tel Aviv at Makhachkala airport "undermined the basic foundations of our multi-cultural and multi-national state."

Boroda said that Dagestani authorities had not been prepared for the riot, in which 60 people were arrested and at least 20 injured.
