Asian, European ministers to meet in Hanoi

North Korea's announcement of a second nuclear test and Myanmar's trial of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi were likely to dominate a meeting of foreign ministers from Asia and Europe on Monday. Representatives of 45 nations - including at least 30 foreign ministers - were to attend the two-day meeting in Hanoi of the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, China, Japan, South Korea, India and Pakistan. The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) was slated to seek solutions to the economic slowdown and ways to enhance economic cooperation. Officials are also expected discuss climate change and communicable diseases such as swine flu.
