Attackers kill several Kenyans in dispute over coastal land

MOMBASA - Armed raiders set fire to houses and killed several villagers in Kenya's Coastal region in a fresh bout of violence that is part of a long-running dispute over grazing land and water, a government official and a local resident said.
"The attack happened last night. We heard gunshots and screams, then there was smoke all over," said Jillo Dabacha, who chairs a community security group in the Tana Delta area. "Eleven people were killed," he said. A senior local government official confirmed the attack and said "several people" had been killed.
Last month attackers armed with machetes and spears killed more than 50 people in the same remote area.
