Attorney-General search committee meets for first time

Attorney-General search

The search committee to recommend candidates for the office of attorney-general met for the first time on Monday to begin its work. According to a Justice Ministry statement, it began preliminary consideration of possible candidates for the position, which will be vacated by retiring Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz in February 2010. The committee is headed by Supreme Court Justice (ret.) Theodor Orr and includes attorney Eyal Rozovsky, MK Yariv Levin, former Justice Minister Moshe Nissim and Prof. Eyal Benvenisti. Benvenisti was on vacation and did not attend the first meeting. Candidates may be proposed by the prime minister, the minister of justice or a member of the committee. The minister of justice may instruct the committee to propose up to three candidates for the job.
