Azerbaijan thwarted terror plot to sabotage Eurovison

Azerbaijan has detained an armed criminal group who had planned to commit terrorist acts during last week's Eurovision Song Contest held in the capital, Baku, Azeri news agency Today.AZ reported on Wednesday.
The group aimed to "organize explosions and armed attacks where massive loss of life would ensue," at hotels where many of the foreign guests participating in and attending Eurovision were staying, including Israeli representative to the competition, rock group Izabo.
According to the report, Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry conducted a large-scale operation to eradicate the terror threat.
Iran withdrew its ambassador from Baku after some Iranian clerics and MPs condemned the event as "insulting of religious saints," The Telegraph reported last week.
