Barkat: Defacement of J'lem signs featuring women must stop

Mayor Nir Barkat spoke with the Jerusalem police district commander on Sunday, telling him the destruction of posters and advertisements featuring women on them must be stopped, according to a press release from the capital city's municipality.

"We need to eradicate this phenomena," Barkat said. "It is our duty to make sure that advertisers interested in using pictures of women on billboards throughout the city will be able to without fear of vandalism."

Barkat spoke with the district commander following several remarks from companies claiming they had refrained from using pictures of women because of past incidences of defacement.

The commander responded that police enforcement against vandalism would increase.
