Begin: Israeli-Arab conflict much deeper than just borders

Minister Benny Begin (Likud) on Sunday said that the Israeli-Arab conflict is much deeper than a war over borders as US President Barack Obama implied in his Middle East speech Thursday. Begin said that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's unwillingness to recognize Israel as the Jewish state was evidence of this.

The minister without portfolio added that Abbas identified with the Arab armies that invaded Israel on the day of its founding and that in a New York Times op-ed the PA president penned last week, he clarified his opinion that the birth of the Jewish state was unjust.
