China: 19 people die in accident on highway due to fog

BEIJING — State media say at least 19 people have been killed in a series of accidents on a fog-shrouded highway in a central Chinese province.
The official Xinhua News Agency says seven separate accidents took place Friday morning outside the city of Zhangshu in Jiangxi province.
It says 19 people died, 16 were injured and 19 vehicles were badly damaged.
Xinhua said Saturday that witnesses reported dense fog at the time of the accidents, with visibility less than 16 feet (five meters).
The highway links the financial hub of Shanghai with the southwestern metropolis of Kunming.
Xinhua says traffic on the highway resumed Friday night.
