Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided not to attend the Copenhagen climate change summit, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon. Citing the superfluous costs involved with sending a delegation to Denmark, as well as his own tight schedule, the prime minister said that he would not head a delegation to the conference. However, Netanyahu phoned President Shimon Peres to suggest that he attend the summit in his stead, stressing that the issues to be discussed there - among them environmental protection, greenhouse gas emissions, clean energy and alternatives to oil - were of utmost importance.
